Santos, who is now entering the last year of his second and final four-year presidential term, wants to cement what he would like to be his political legacy – the end of Colombia’s long-running internal armed conflict. But Santos is aware that the future of the peace deal will not be certain until congress approves all legislation linked to it, and its implementation is well underway before next year’s general elections.
