Argentina: On 6 July the interim US Ambassador to Argentina, Charge d’Affaires (CDA) at the US embassy Thomas Cooney, described US-Argentina relations as “very positive, stable, and mature” and spoke of Argentina as being “a leader in the region”, according to a press release by the US Embassy. Cooney made his comments at an event held to mark the occasion of the 201
st anniversary of Argentina’s independence on 9 July. Cooney added that the two nations, along with other members of the Organization of American States (OAS) will continue to seek a solution to the political crisis in Venezuela. Cooney affirmed that “The US and Argentina are working very hard in the support of the Venezuelan people”, and that both nations “expect a solution in the end to the crisis that many Venezuelans are suffering at the moment”. US Vice-president Mike Pence is due to travel to Argentina in August as part of a trip to Latin America which includes stop-overs in Colombia, Chile, and Panama.
