Guatemala: The electoral authorities (TSE) have announced that the ruling right-wing Frente de Convergencia Nacional (FCN-Nación) party and the main opposition Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza (UNE) party will retain their legal status. The announcement ends doubts about the future of both parties after FCN-Nación was late in presenting documentation relating to its campaign financing for the 2015 general elections; and amid reported inconsistencies regarding payments made during the 2015 electoral campaign period by UNE to certain local media. While UNE has since clarified these doubts, the FCN-Nación has been fined some Q437,400 (US$60,000) by the TSE.
