In brief: Bolivia, Colombia

Bolivia: More than 18,000 people took to the streets on 12 July in most of Bolivia’s departmental capitals and El Alto city (La Paz department) in protests called by the main umbrella union, Central Obrera Boliviana (COB). The protests are against a 3% increase in electricity tariffs, announced by the national electricity regulator (AE) in June, and a judicial decision made by Bolivia’s human rights ombudsman on 29 May which limits the right of doctors to strike.
