NICARAGUA: Gov’t approves creation of state mining company

Last month Nicaragua’s 92-member national assembly approved new legislation which establishes a state mining company, Empresa Nicaragüense de Minas (Eniminas), a decentralised company to sit under the energy & mining ministry (MEM). Its creation serves as the latest sign of efforts to promote the sector by the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) government led by President Daniel Ortega, which in August 2014 held its first ever international mining congress.
