PARAGUAY | Marijuana seizure. More than 13 tonnes of marijuana were put on show for the press by Paraguay’s national anti-drug agency Secretaría Nacional Antidrogas (Senad) in its Asunción headquarters on 15 June. Hugo Vera, the head of Senad, explained that the marijuana had been confiscated from a barge carrying a shipment of soya down the Paraná river towards the Uruguayan port of Palmira, although Senad said it believed the illicit part of the cargo was destined for Argentina. Senad calculated that the marijuana would have fetched US$9m in the Argentine market.
