Uruguay’s grand dream of becoming an important exporter of iron ore is definitively over – at least for the foreseeable future. On 7 June, land belonging to the open-pit mining project of Minera Aratirí, a subsidiary of the Indian mining company Zamin Ferrous, in the central departments of Florida and Durazno, was sold in 11 separate lots by auction.
