In brief: Mexico

* The American Sugar Alliance, the lobby group that represents the US sugar industry, has offered its backing to an agreement in principle over the introduction of new Mexican sugar import quotas announced earlier this month by the US and Mexican governments. The Sugar Alliance’s support for the agreement means that this can now be implemented and that the US and Mexico will avoid entering into a trade spat over the dispute which dates back to 2014.
