LatinNews Regional Monitor: Brazil & Southern Cone - 09 June 2017

In brief: Argentina, Paraguay

Argentina: The national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest inflation figures, which show that the national inflation rate increased by 1.3% in May, compared to the previous month, bringing the accumulated rate for the year to 10.5% and the 12-month rolling rate to 24%. The Indec May figure is slightly lower than the inflation rate reported by the Instituto Estadístico de los Trabajadores (IET), a think-tank funded by local worker’s unions, and the so-called ‘IPC Congreso’ consumer price inflation index compiled by the national congress, both of which registered a 1.8% increase in prices in the month. However, all the results point to a fall in the inflation rate compared to last year.
