* Mexico’s mining chamber (Camimex) has reported that the country produced 3.82m ounces of gold and 178.8m ounces of silver in 2016, once again making Mexico the world’s top silver producer and the eighth largest gold producer. Camimex director, Sergio Almazán, noted that despite the positive result the level of investment in Mexico’s mining sector once again fell for the fourth consecutive year in 2016 to reach US$3.75bn, 18.9% less than in 2015.
