Argentina: The Instituto Estadístico de los Trabajadores (IET), a think-tank funded by local workers’ unions, has released its latest inflation figures, which show that the national inflation rate reached 1.8% in May, the first time that the monthly inflation rate has fallen below 2% in the last three months. IET’s figures are in line with local economists’ forecasts as well as those from the government (with the official May inflation figures due to be released in coming days). This is a boon for the government given that Finance Minister Nicolás Dujovne has said that reducing the inflation rate for a second year running to 17% would be a major achievement for the administration led by President Mauricio Macri.
