Peru: The consumer protection agency (Indecopi) has ordered local dairy firm Grupo Gloria to immediately suspend the distribution of all its Pura Vida milk substitute product and all supermarkets to remove Pura Vida products from their shelves. The decisions come amid a scandal revolving around the Pura Vida products being labelled as ‘evaporated cow’s milk’ when in reality in it is a mixture of evaporated cow’s milk, soy milk, and other ingredients. An Indecopi statement said that its order was in line with a resolution issued by the health ministry’s general environmental health directorate (Digesa), the body in charge of regulating food standards, which found that Pura Vida products are indeed mislabelled.
