Mexico pushes for more cohesive global disaster prevention strategy

Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto has called upon world leaders to recognise the economic and human costs of natural disasters, to invest in disaster prevention strategies, and to combat the imminent threat of climate change. Peña Nieto was speaking at a convention organised by the United Nations (UN) on 26-29 May in the Mexican Caribbean resort of Cancún, Quintana Roo state, entitled ‘The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction’.
