* The central bank (Banxico) has reported that Mexico received US$8.94bn in remittances from Mexicans living abroad in the first quarter of the year, a 6.82% increase compared to the same period of 2016. Noting that the US$26.97bn in remittances received by Mexico in the whole of last year was the highest figures in the past 20 years, Banxico said that the level of total remittances received by Mexico this year could set a new record as the current upward trend in remittances is expected to continue.
