In brief: Uruguay

Uruguay: The latest monthly trade report released by the central bank (BCU) shows that the country posted a negative trade balance of US$78.6m in April, taking the cumulative trade balance for the first quarter to -US$342.2m. The BCU report notes that the April trade balance result came on the back of a 16.4% increase in Uruguay’s exports and a 23% fall in imports, suggesting that the country’s trade balance may now be starting to move towards a more positive equilibrium.
