Drug trafficking financing of electoral campaigns investigated in Mexico

Development: On 29 May, the specialised electoral crimes unit (Fepade) in Mexico’s federal attorney general’s office revealed that it has opened various enquiries into the suspected illicit financing by local drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) of the electoral campaigns of candidates taking part in the upcoming 4 June elections due to take place in the states of Coahuila, Nayarit, Veracruz, and the Estado de México (Edomex).
