Colombia: Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos has announced the extension for another 20 days until 20 June the deadline for members of the Farc who have adhered to the group’s
formal demobilisation process to hand in their weapons to a United Nations peace verification mission; the Farc leadership had complained that the 31 May deadline established in the peace deal it signed with the government las year was inadequate and that more time should be allowed for Farc fighters to hand in all of their weapons, given that the establishment of some of the
safe ‘concentration zones’ (ZVTNs) had been delayed. Santos also announced that the life of the ZVTNs has been extended for an additional two months until 1 August.
