In brief: Colombia

Colombia: The national police has announced the capture of Omar ‘Boyaco’ Noguera, identified as one of the main leaders of the Clan del Golfo criminal organisation. A police statement said that Noguera was arrested during an operation carried out in the San Pedro de Urabá area of Antioquia department. The statement adds that Noguera is believed to be in charge of all of the Clan del Golfo’s drug trafficking activities following the death of Uldar ‘Pablito’ Rueda, who was killed in a shootout with the police last month. Noguera is also accused of being responsible for the so-called ‘plan pistola’ under which the Clan del Golfo, in the wake of Rueda’s death, began launching armed attacks targeting the security forces, which has claimed the lives of various members of the security forces in recent weeks.
