* The national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new data which shows that the national unemployment rate in the first quarter fell to 3.4%, compared to the 4% registered in the same period of last year. Inegi’s seasonally adjusted figures also show that the unemployment rate in the first quarter stood at 3.5%, 0.1 percentage points lower than in the comparable period of 2016. Similarly, the underemployment rate also fell to 7.1% in the first quarter of 2017, compared to 7.9% in the first quarter of 2016.
