The agriculture ministry's foreign relations coordinator, Raúl Urteaga, has said that, ahead of the impending renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), the Mexican government is currently looking for new source markets for grains. The US is the main source market for Mexico’s maize, rice, wheat, and soya imports but Urteaga, who concluded a week-long visit to Argentina and Brazil, said that amid concerns that the Nafta renegotiations could lead to agricultural trade restrictions, Mexico was now exploring alternative grain suppliers.
