Opposition FNM sweeps to victory in The Bahamas

As we go to press Hubert Minnis is being sworn in as the new prime minister of The Bahamas at the helm of the Free National Movement (FNM). The FNM had been routed in the last general elections in the 700-strong archipelago in May 2012, when it was turfed out of power winning just nine of 38 seats in the House of Assembly. But it is back with a bang, inflicting the first defeat on a serving prime minister in the country’s history as Perry Christie and the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) endured a torrid night.
