Mexico’s state-owned oil firm, Pemex, has announced that it will assume full responsibility for exploiting the ‘Ek’ and ‘Balam’ offshore oil wells located in the Sonda de Campeche field in the Gulf of Mexico. The announcement comes amid speculation that Pemex was looking for a private sector partner to exploit the shallow water wells which are believed to contain some 500m barrels of oil.
