The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid bin Ra’ad al Hussein Zeid has reported that figures from is office show an increase in violent attacks against human rights activists in Brazil, with 61 such activists killed in the country in 2016.  Zeid said that in particular those fighting for land rights and environmental issues appear to be targeted in Brazil, with the Amazonian state of Pará identified as the most dangerous for human right activists.
