LatinNews Regional Monitor: Mexico - 25 April 2017

In brief: Mexico

* The federal interior ministry (Segob) has issued an alert in nine states following the theft of radioactive material from a medical supply firm in the western state of Jalisco. Segob has said that the stolen iridium 192 radioactive agent emits low-level radioactivity, but it warned the public not to come into direct contact with it and to alert the authorities if they come across it. This is the ninth time that radioactive material has been stolen in Mexico by presumed criminals since 2013 without the authorities establishing the motives behind these incidents.
