Argentina’s ambassador to the US resigns

Argentina: On 3 April, Argentina’s ambassador to the US, Martín Lousteau, tendered his resignation from the post. The Argentine press is reporting that Lousteau, who served as economy minister in 2008 under the Frente para la Victoria (FPV, Kirchneristas) administration led by former president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015), wants to return to Argentina to become more involved in national politics in the run-up to Argentina's October midterm legislative elections. In his resignation letter Lousteau, who was appointed by President Mauricio Macri in December 2015, said that his vocation is in Argentina, especially in Buenos Aires, and that “his contribution could be greater in Argentina than overseas”. The announcement has come before President Macri’s scheduled official visit to the US, where he is due to meet President Donald Trump at the end of this month. President Macri has yet to name a replacement for Lousteau.
