Ever since Donald Trump won the US elections last November, there have been two rival scenarios for the Mexican economy in 2017. Under one, Trump’s policies on trade and immigration will be an unmitigated disaster for Mexico, disrupting the second largest economy in Latin America and pushing it into recession. Under the other, they will not be as bad as feared. The Mexican economy will muddle through and might even do quite well.
