Ecuadoreans are poised to vote in the closest presidential elections to be held in the country for over a decade. The momentum appears to be with Lenín Moreno, the candidate for the ruling left-wing Alianza País (AP), which has held sway under President Rafael Correa since 2007. If Moreno wins the second round on 2 April, he will enjoy a resounding (albeit shrunken) absolute majority in the national assembly. If Moreno’s rival Guillermo Lasso, of the centre-right opposition Movimiento Creo, emerges triumphant he would be constrained.
