CGT back on the war path
The Confederación General del Trabajadores (CGT), Argentina’s main umbrella trade union, has decided to break off its long-running dialogue with the government and once again mobilise in defence of workers’ rights. The CGT’s move is a cause for concern for the centre-right Cambiemos coalition government led by President Mauricio Macri as it suggests that Argentina’s powerful labour movement is turning against it. This being an electoral year, this is something that the government can ill afford.
