Quintana Roo struggles to contain violence

Until now, the southern state of Quintana Roo, which boasts one of Mexico’s most famous beach resorts, Cancún, had largely managed to avoid the drug-related violence which plagues other coastal states like Colima, Jalisco, and Guerrero. However, this year, Quintana Roo has witnessed an unprecedented wave of shootings, which could jeopardise its reputation as a tourist-friendly hotspot.
