El Salvador’s Arena quits talks to avert default

Development: On 10 January, El Salvador’s main opposition Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena) suspended negotiations with the government led by President Salvador Sánchez Cerén, which it accused of reneging on commitments undertaken in exchange for the right-wing party’s votes in the legislative assembly last November to secure approval of a bond emission.
