SECURITY: Bachelet reminded of another priority

In late July a cacerolazo (a ‘pots and pans’ protest) occurred in various parts of the capital Santiago at the perceived failure by the ruling leftist Nueva Mayoría coalition government led by President Michelle Bachelet to address insecurity. The cacerolazo happened two weeks after opposition politicians, city mayors and private sector groups launched a new national campaign against delinquency entitled ‘Juntos Contra la Delincuencia’.
