POLITICS: Morales faces setbacks ahead of local elections

With the 29 March gubernatorial and municipal elections looming, President Evo Morales and the ruling Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) are facing various corruption-related setbacks. Two separate scandals - one involving the government’s indigenous development fund (Fondioc) and the other the state-owned oil company, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) - have again exposed official corruption as a weak point. This could prove damaging for the MAS ahead of the elections.
