On 11 June President Horacio Cartes signed a congressional resolution ordering the expropriation of 14,400 hectares (ha) of rural lands that the Sawhoyamaxa indigenous community has been claiming for over 20 years. The national indigenous institute (Indi) will now begin the land expropriation and restitution process that once concluded will set a significant landmark - it will be the largest tract of land ever returned to an indigenous community in Paraguay.
