In brief: Brazil’s industrial production declines in monthly terms

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for industrial production, showing a 1.8% monthly decrease in June. Meanwhile, in year-on-year terms production rose by 1.7% compared to June last year, and the accumulated production in the 12 months through June 2026 was up 0.7% on the preceding 12-month period. Of the 25 product categories measured by the Ibge, 16 posted monthly decreases. The greatest drops in production were registered in pharmaceutical products (-11.0%), clothing and accessories (-11.0%), and computer equipment, electronic and optical products (-8.9%). Of the nine categories to see monthly increases, the greatest rises in production were registered by printing and recording equipment (+20.2%), pulp, paper, and paper products (+5.4%), and smoking products (+2.3%).
