Mexico’s right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) is entering a new chapter. Tired of successive electoral defeats, the party’s leader Jorge Romero has stated the party will return to its conservative roots, putting the values of “fatherland, family, and freedom” at its core. As part of this new era, Romero said the PAN would not depend on party alliances, signalling a rupture with the centrist opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), with which the PAN unsuccessfully joined forces for the 2024 presidential elections.
