BOLIVIA: Candidates face off in final debate before second round

With days to go until the 19 October second round of Bolivia’s presidential election, the country is poised to move in a newly conservative direction which could entail significant changes to its socialist economic model. Yet whilst the two candidates, the right-wing former president Jorge Quiroga (2001-2002) and the centre-right Rodrigo Paz, are broadly aligned on the need for change, they have diverged significantly on their proposed remedies. A televised debate on 12 October offered one of the final chances for each candidate to make their case to voters.
