Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa is facing his biggest political challenge since the January 2024 criminal uprising, as the country’s indigenous movement threatens to “take over” the capital Quito and nationwide protests are approaching their third week. The government has shown no sign of backing down on the elimination of diesel subsidies, which was the spark for the unrest.
