In brief: Chile’s inflation accelerates in September

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the inflation figures for September, which put monthly inflation at 0.4% and annual inflation at 4.4%. This marks an acceleration from the 0% monthly inflation and 4.0% annual rate in August. Of the 13 categories of products and services measured by the INE, nine categories registered a monthly rise in prices, two categories registered negligible changes, and two categories registered monthly deflation. Alcoholic drinks and tobacco (-0.3%) and information and communication (-0.2%) were the two categories that saw monthly price decreases, while transport and education were the two categories that posted negligible monthly inflation in September. The categories with the highest monthly inflation rates were clothing and footwear (+1.4%) and recreation, sports, and culture (+1.3%).
