HONDURAS: Concerns persist ahead of elections

Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, the cardinal archbishop emeritus of Tegucigalpa, took aim this week at the lack of proposals from candidates competing in the Honduran general election on 30 November, in which voters will pick a new president, 128 members of the legislative assembly and 298 mayors, among other posts. His criticism adds to other concerns regarding the election, amid infighting within the national electoral council (CNE) [WR-25-28], the failure to address serious logistical flaws exposed in the March primaries [WR-25-12], and ongoing electoral violence.
