*Mexico’s agriculture (Sader) and economy (SE) ministries have updated the minimum export prices for fresh tomatoes that
were introduced on 10 August, after the US government imposed anti-dumping duties on Mexican tomato imports. Under the updates, the minimum price per kilogram will be US$1.50 for cherry and grape tomatoes, down from US$1.70 when the prices were initially set, and US$1.70 for other varieties, down from US$1.75. The minimum price for beefsteak tomatoes remains at US$0.95 although the prices for stem-on beefsteak tomatoes has been reduced from US$1.65 to US$1.35 and those for beefsteak tomatoes on the vine from US$1.70 to US$1.25. The price adjustments were published in the official gazette (DOF) with the ministries stating they deemed the changes necessary following consultations with organisations representing the fresh tomato export industry and various exporters. The DOF bulletin stated that the adjusted minimum prices
“will maintain the Mexican export industry’s share of international markets at a competitive price, without encouraging other countries to take advantage of the situation to expand their export industry, causing Mexican products to be displaced”.End of preview - This article contains approximately 195 words.
