In brief: Remittances to Mexico fall again

*Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has announced that remittances sent to the country in July totalled US$5.33bn, representing a year-on-year decrease of 4.7%. This follows yearly drops of 16.2% in June, 4.6% in May, and 12.1% in April. Accumulated remittances received over the first seven months of 2025 totalled US$34.89bn, down 5.5% on the US$36.92bn received in the same period of 2024. Remittance flows from the US have come under pressure from a new remittance tax of 1% and the hardline anti-migration measures being implemented by the government of President Donald Trump.
