*Mexico’s economy (SE) and agriculture (Sader) ministries have announced the government has set minimum export prices for fresh tomatoes, after the US government
imposed anti-dumping duties on Mexican tomato imports, citing unfair prices. In a statement, the ministries said the new prices looked to protect domestic production, prevent distortions in the international market, and guarantee supply for domestic consumption. Under the new measures, the minimum price per kilogram will be US$1.70 for cherry and grape tomatoes, US$0.95 for beefsteak tomatoes, US$0.88 for Roma tomatoes, and US$1.75 for other varieties. The ministries said the price agreement, which has the support of tomato producer associations, reinforces the government’s commitment to
“agricultural competitiveness, decent employment in the countryside, and the country’s food sovereignty”.End of preview - This article contains approximately 128 words.
