MEXICO: Sheinbaum holds tariff threat at bay

Another of US President Donald Trump’s tariff deadlines has come and gone without serious implications for Mexico. On 31 July Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Trump had agreed to a 90-day pause on plans to increase tariffs on Mexican imports from 25% to 30%, which were originally due to come into force on 1 August. While the announcement has prompted praise of Sheinbaum and her ability to negotiate with Trump, much uncertainty still lies ahead.
