Claudia Sheinbaum has hosted Canada’s Foreign Minister
Anita Anand and Finance Minister
François-Philippe Champagne at the national palace in Mexico City (CDMX) to discuss bilateral relations, particularly in relation to trade and investment. Mexico’s Economy Minister
Marcelo Ebrard told reporters prior to the meeting that it would cover the two countries’ experiences in dealing with the tariffs imposed on imports by US President
Donald Trump, following a
recent 90-day delay in plans to raise tariffs on Mexican imports and the imposition of a higher 35% tariff rate on imports from Canada. Ebrard stated that Canada
“wants to know how Mexico is achieving these results” with regards to the tariff hike postponement
. Anand wrote on social media that the meeting was
“productive”, stating both sides reaffirmed
“the strength of our bilateral relationship” and discussions
“advanced key shared priorities in terms of economic growth, security and trade diversification”. Champagne added that
“Canada and Mexico are great partners”, saying the countries would work on
