PERU: Turning the tide on coca?

Peru’s national drugs agency (Devida) published its annual coca crop monitoring report on 27 June, which stated that 89,755 hectares (ha) of land were dedicated to coca cultivation in 2024. Whilst this marked only a modest reduction compared with 2023, it nonetheless represented a second consecutive year of decline and could potentially mark a new downwards trend after coca harvesting marched relentlessly upwards from 2015-2022.
