​ARGENTINA: Controversial decree grants police new powers

Argentina’s President Javier Milei signed a decree on 16 June to expand the powers of the federal police (PFA), which includes allowing arrests and digital surveillance without a warrant. While the government argues these measures are needed to combat organised crime, human rights groups warn that the terms of the decree may violate the constitution and enable serious infringements of civil liberties.
