ECUADOR: Correa rails against Glas sentence

Ecuador’s former vice president Jorge Glas (2013-2017) was sentenced on 30 June to 13 years in prison for embezzling funds intended for reconstruction works following a major earthquake in 2016. The case has been heavily politicised, with Glas’s former boss Rafael Correa (2007-2017) claiming that with the sentencing the supreme court (CNJ) hopes to curry favour with the current administration led by President Daniel Noboa.
