​COLOMBIA: Petro turns on VP amid reports of plot

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro said on 30 June that his vice president, Francia Márquez, could face political and legal consequences after she was reported to be the beneficiary of a plot to depose him and install her as president. Spanish newspaper El País broke news of the plan, led by Petro’s former foreign minister Álvaro Leyva (2022-2024), and has published audio recordings of Leyva discussing efforts to approach officials in the US to win support for the plot.
