In brief: Argentina’s economic activity picks up

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) for April, showing a 1.9% increase on March when it had posted a 1.9% monthly decline. In annual terms the Emae was up 7.7% in April 2025 compared with April 2024, representing the highest annual increase since June 2022 when the Emae was 8.4%. The April annual figure follows growth of 5.4% in March, 5.6% in February, and 6.4% in January. According to Indec, 12 economic sectors expanded in April 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, including financial services (+28.4%) and construction (+17.1%). Three sectors registered yearly declines including fishing (-20.2%) and electricity, gas, and water (-3.4%). The yearly figure for April came above the 6.6% expansion projected by analysts polled by Reuters.
