Carolina Jaramillo, has announced that Ecuador will receive US$1bn in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the energy sector from Chinese and Spanish firms, which she said was as a result of President
Daniel Noboa’s ongoing tour of China, Spain, and Italy which began on 23 June. In a social media post, Jaramillo said that Ecuador will receive a US$400m investment from the state-owned Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) in renewable energy and storage, as well as technical assistance. She said that Spain’s Grupo Cox will invest a further US$600m in five electricity projects and an 80km transmission line.
